John Heuman

John Heuman is an American patriot who has become a personal friend through this project. John grew up in Chicago, Illinois and he joined the Navy in 1969 at the young age of eighteen. During John’s time in the Navy, he served aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, part of the United States Sixth Fleet. In 1971, John was honorably discharged from the Navy. He then briefly joined the Navy Reserves and transferred to the United States Army in 1971. John served in 1/11 Air Calvary Reconisance and was deployed to combat operations in Viet Nam. When he returned home, John went to work for the Veterans Administration and served for over twenty years. Like so many others, John was exposed to Agent Orange during his time in Viet Nam, and as a result he is a cancer survivor several times over. He continues his battle with cancer even today, having numerous painful surgeries. Despite all this, John fights on, facing everyday with a smile like no other.
