Last Saturday I went out again hoping to capture as much of the leaf change as possible while it lasts. I started my morning at Mabry Mill located at milepost 176 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Meadows of Dan. The mill was built by the Mabry's with the help of a neighbor over a century ago, some time around 1905. While there photographing, I ran into another friendly group of bikers, so I captured a group shot of them. One of guys in the group was an outspoken Tennessee fan, me being a Hokie fan I tried not to hold it against him. Little did I know, later that day Virginia Tech would lose to Miami and Tennessee would beat Alabama in a historic win. Go Vols!

Leaving Mabry Mill I meandered my way north along the Blue Ridge Parkway, stopping all along the way to take in the fall foliage.

Later in the day I made a stop at the Peaks of Otter Lodge. According to the website, the lodge was constructed in 1964 and is commonly the venue of choice for vacations and weddings, in fact, a wedding was just finishing up about the time I arrived. The lodge is situated adjacent to Abbott Lake, offering views of the three peaks considered part of the Peaks of Otter; Sharp Top, with an altitude of 3,875 feet; Flat Top, with an altitude of 4,004 feet; and Harkening Hill, with an altitude of 3,375 feet.

With the day drawing towards a close I jumped back on the Parkway and headed back south towards Roanoke, looking for a good spot to set up for a sunset shot overlooking the Blue Ridge mountain range. I made it almost all the way back to Roanoke before finding a spot with which I was happy. I found an interesting composition with a blend of fall colors in the foreground and that iconic blue hazy look of the Blue Ridge mountain range in the background.

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, being understood by what has been made, so that they are without excuse. Romans 1:20
