Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery
Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony

Every year in December, America takes a collective moment to pause and honor the fallen and give thanks to all of our veterans who served and sacrificed in the name of freedom by laying millions of wreaths on the graves of our veterans. I come from a family with a long military history. Although I personally did not serve, my father and brothers served in the Army, both in times of conflict and peace. This time of year is especially poignant for me as both my father and my older brother are interred at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia. For years I lived out of state and was unable to participate in the annual wreath laying but knowing that someone would be laying wreaths on the graves of my family was always a source of comfort. A couple years ago I came back home to Virginia and have since been able to participate in the wreath laying ceremonies.

Every one of the wreaths laid on the markers at the veteran's cemetery are bought and paid for with donations made to Horton Wreath Society. The Society strives to educate all, especially our youth and future generations, to remember the sacrifices by our veterans and to respect them. I donate my photography services in honor of my father and brother and to call attention to Horton Wreath Society's fundraising mission.

The images included in the gallery below are available for purchase so that participating families can have mementos to remind them of the annual wreath laying. 100% of the profits will be donated to my designated beneficiary, Horton Wreath Society, to help pay for the wreaths each year. 13,000 wreaths were laid in 2023 with approximately 1,000 being interred each year, so the need grows every year.

What is the meaning of a veteran's wreath?
